Dear Friend,

We are planning the first week of May 4-8, for a designated work week. Please put the word out. The hurricane hit many months ago, but the work continues. We have picked up homes from CORE, who have left the area. There is still plenty of work to be done. If you have a group that can work but can't make it for that particular week, let us know and see if we can't coordinate something to fit your schedule.

We are happy to report that the first home that we began rebuilding in San Leon is complete and the homeowner is living there. I have attached before and after pictures. We are still working on two homes in Seabrook. Depending on the number of volunteers, we probably will work on these two homes in May (next month). If there are folks that would like to volunteer and can put a work team together on their own, please have them contact us to coordinate a time that will work for them.

Dear Friend,

I have been offline for a couple of weeks. Just want to touch base with all and ask that you respond that you have gotten my email because I have had to recreate my address book. First of all, Tom's knee surgery went well and he is home recouping with his new knee. Pray for him as he starts physical therapy.

We are looking forward to the week as we continue with the recovery efforts for Ike. We will begin the week, Nov 17-21, for those who have not been notified, with a clean-up home in League City for a disabled lady and dry-wall install at Pak's home in Seabrook.

Please let me know what days you will be able to work this week for the local folks. Since this week is local folks, we will only have the noon meal on site. If there are some that would like to help with a carry-in lunch to the folks working please let me know.

Now to the out-of-towners who would like to come down for a week, we are planning Dec 8-12 and Jan 5-9 as the next weeks. We will be scheduling weeks once a month for as long as the work holds out. We have a list of folks who need help, so there is plenty of work.

Look over your schedules and let me know when you can help. Local folks, we can use you whenever you are available, if not for a full week--day by day.

Dear Friend,

Friend Tom has informed me that the Friends Disaster Service - Texas Area requests Donations of time, talent and money for the upcoming November 17 - 21 continuation of clean-up and rebuilding after Hurricane Ike. The total recovery time in the Galveston area from this disaster is estimated at 3-5 years.

The emphasis of the aid in cleanup and reconstruction will go to those homeowners who were uninsured or under insured, and especially those who are disabled or elderly. Tom reported that FEMA makes a maximum $28,800 to homeowners who had damage to property, however the average payment has been approximately $1,500 - 8,000 per household. A video showing the damage and the work being done should be available shortly.

To volunteer your time and talent, please contact Tom at the addresses or phone below. The Galveston Airport may still be damaged, and if Friends fly to Houston, arrangements will be made for pick up. Arrangements will be also made for volunteers to stay at the church. To donate funds to help with further cleanup and reconstruction, please also send checks to the address below. Friend Tom is a member of Lighthouse Fellowship, League City, TX which is affiliated with Mid-America Yearly Meeting.
